In Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny, Kate Manne talks about how misogyny works. The patriarchal society demands women to play certain roles. The misogyny mechanism is to discipline misbehaving women, through which women could behave themselves. The “The Madonna and the Whore” series was inspired by the theory. The Madonna and the whole seem opposite to each other. Yet, both function to sort females and assign rewards and punishment accordingly. The artist juxtaposes the two symbols as images, seeking to generate an alternative thinking structure from the two seemingly conflicting notions.

凱特曼恩在 《不只是厭女》一書中提到厭女的機制如何運行。父權社會需要女人扮演特定的角色,厭女機制是用來規訓懲罰不乖的女人,透過這個過程讓女人都能安分守己。延伸這個理論產生了這個系列 「聖母與妓女」。聖母與妓女這兩個名詞似乎是對立的,但其實作用都是將女性分類並且依據此分類給予獎勵與懲罰。我在作品中將這兩個符號以圖像的方式並列,企圖在看似兩相衝突的概念產生不一樣的思考架構。
