The wide street in the childhood memory is nothing but a smally alley today.
Ask not for opinions of others as no one knows better what you want than yourself. Care not judgement of others as no one judges you harder than yourself. Trust not praises of others as no one sees if you are good enough better than yourself.
小時候印象中寬敞的街道,如今看來不過只是小巷小弄。
不用尋求別人的意見,因為沒人比你更知道你要的是什麼。不須理會別人的批評,因為沒人比你批判自己更嚴厲。不要相信別人的讚美,因為沒人比你更清楚自己夠不夠好。
The Old Dog Walking down the Stairway
走下台階的老狗

Walking down the path beside the private lodging in Juifen, I looked up and saw the uneven stairway, the irregular outer walls, and the exposed water pipelines and electricity wires, and that was the moment I detected an interesting picture. The key red lanterns are a careful supplementary device I came up with upon my returned to my studio after the demo in class that successfully counteracts and balances the contrasting blocks of black and white with the red rhythm.
當時我走在九份民宿旁的小路上,抬頭看到不整齊的台階、不規則的外牆和外露的水管電線,我當下嗅到了有趣的畫面。關鍵的紅燈籠,是我上課示範完後回工作室,用盡心機的補充設計,它成功地以紅色的節奏,對抗且平衡了黑白對比的塊面。

In my paintings, be that concrete individual and thing or abstract dots, lines, and shape, each existence certainly denotes meanings. Things born out of nowhere in painting, or those removed, surely serve certain purposes. From ideation to arrangement, composition, and retouching finally, to add or to remove, ask yourself the reason and purpose constantly before setting in motion, so that the picture will stay active in performance.
在我的畫裡,無論是具象的人事物、還是抽象的點線面, 每一種存在,都必須有意義。在畫中無中生有的事物,或刪去多餘的事物,都要有明確目的。從發想、佈局、構圖到最後修飾完成,是丟還是撿,隨時隨地追問自己原因與目的再出手,畫面就會一直抱持活躍的效能。
