Part of my Sand, Sticks & Stones series:
STONES:
Rocks, pebbles can be an intriguing part of nature with their indivldual shapes, colours, textures.
The challenge is to arrange all the variety of shapes into a harmonious whole. ln this work each stone has been painted one at a time and together they appear like the cast of characters in a play. Some stones are the ‘stars’ whilst others are bit players, the supporting cast.
Sunlit Driftwood ll
Part of my Sand, Sticks & Stones series:
STICKS:
Mostly are driftwood and I find that they give a new dynamic to what at times are uninteresting coastal scenes. The complexities encountered with the drawing takes time, as the work is layered by shapes on top of shapes. These entwining forms that create a challenge for the artist. Weathered timber with its bleached tones, its white areas can be utilized to enhance the composition.
This is a prize winning work of four years ago and since, I have reworked the painting, to make it a stronger more compelling image.
Sands of Fishery Beach

Part of my watercolour series: Sands, Sticks & Stones
SAND:
To create a large scale illusion of sand in a painting is a challenge.
The technical skill required comes with experience for sand has an infinite variety of tones, colours and textures. With its smoothness, the sand acts as a counterpoint to the solidity and texture of the stones. This painting has been in progress with subtle modifications made in recent times.
